Light pipes are transparent components that transmit the light from an LED on the printed circuit board (PCB) to the outside of the enclosure or front panel. Using light, they transmit information quickly, efficiently and without interference. Light pipes – also known as fiber-optic cables – often consist of clear polycarbonate. Light pipes are also used as optical components in laser technology and modern measurement technology. At ETTINGER you have a choice of different variants and shapes that can be easily ordered online, including in large quantities.
Light pipes in various designs
To ensure that light gets to where it is needed, ETTINGER offers a wide range of light pipes to suit every application. Rigid light pipes, angled versions, extra-strong light pipes for high light output, flexible fiber-optic cables or compact and angled light pipe modules can all be found in the ETTINGER product range, as well as components for state-of-the-art or special SMD LEDs.

Rigid light pipes
Rigid light pipes direct the light from the SMD LED to the front panel at a 90° angle. This reduces the need for specially mounted LEDs. The benefits of rigid polycarbonate light pipes include:
- Wide viewing angle of up to 120°
- Protection of the PCB against electrostatic charge via contact to the enclosure
- Compatible with many SMD LEDs
Also available from ETTINGER – light pipes for rectangular displays with different center heights and square lenses.
Multiple light pipes
Double light pipes are conductors with two separate displays for SMD LEDs with low space requirements. They can be easily mounted side-by-side with a minimum clearance of 5.08 mm.
Quadruple combination light pipes are particularly suitable for SMD LEDs. This arrangement prevents crosstalk between the individual stations. Multiple light pipes are particularly suitable for highly sensitive applications in the transmission range of critical displays. The clear arrangement of the fiber-optic cables ensures a defined placement and high transmission quality, even when space is severely limited. With this module, the disadvantages of individual arrangements are avoided and the development and production costs reduced. The modules can also be stacked in mixed combinations thanks to the corresponding holes and catches.
Flexible light pipes and SMD light pipes
Flexible light pipes are particularly suitable for SMD LED technology. The bent light pipes are fixed on the PCB with two centering pins (for example). SMD light pipes are also available from ETTINGER with push-on adapters in different socket heights. Our flexible light pipes are made of clear polycarbonate.
