Ferrules reliably prevent splaying of the individual wires or strands in terminal connections. The stripped ends of the multi-stranded conductors in the strands are fitted with ferrules, allowing them to be connected in a way that prevents mechanical damage, which could otherwise be caused by the cable terminals. This makes contacting problems a thing of the past and guarantees trouble-free operation. Uninsulated ferrules are used if there is not enough space to use ferrules with insulating collars – for example in the wiring of switch and control cabinets. They can easily be pushed into the terminals without a plastic collar getting in the way.
Suitable ferrules for every conductor cross section
In order for ferrules to fully perform their function, they must match the conductor cross section exactly. ETTINGER supplies suitable ferrules as standard for nominal cross sections from 0.1 mm² to 16.0 mm² and in lengths from 6.0 mm to 15.0 mm. The uninsulated ferrules comply with DIN 46228/1 (tubular shape without plastic sleeve) and consist of high-quality, corrosion-protected materials such as electrolytic copper with a tin-plated or silver-plated surface.
In addition to the quality of the ferrules themselves, correct and appropriate crimping is also decisive for optimal results during cable assembly: We recommend the use of suitable tools or tools approved by the manufacturer to connect the ferrule and conductor safely and correctly. For automated production, we can also supply ferrule strips or reels on request.
