With self-clinching studs you can create threaded connections with minimal effort in sheet metal or plastic from a thickness of 0.5mm. They work on the same principle as self-clinching nuts: when embedding the self-clinching fastener into the hole in the component, the cold forming process squeezes the material around the hole into a special undercut in the shank of the fastener. The self-clinching fastener therefore forms a high-strength connection with the base material and has high torque-out and pull-through resistance. The knurl or serration on the stud secures the fastener from axial movement and rotation. No heat is used or created during the installation process and the surface finish remains intact. The ETTINGER range includes self-clinching studs with different thread types, which are available to order online and in large quantities directly from our extensive stock.
Self-clinching studs for metal and plastic
For metallic materials, you can select from a range of self-clinching studs to suit your component and assembly requirements. Choose from the following connecting components:
Self-clinching studs FH - FHS:
- protruding head after press-fit assembly
- made of hardened steel 8.8, colorless zinc-plated, colorless passivated
- made of stainless steel 18/8 (AISI 300), passivated
Self-clinching studs FHL - FHLS:
- suitable for installation close to the edge of the sheet
- flush head after press-fit assembly
- made of hardened steel, colorless zinc-plated, colorless passivated
- made of corrosion-resistant steel 18/8 (AISI 300), passivated
Both types of self-clinching fasteners are available in numerous thread types and sizes, details of which are listed in our product catalog from page 191.
The ETTINGER range also includes type KFH self-clinching threaded studs, designed for mounting in plastic parts such as, in particular, printed circuit boards with a minimum thickness of 1.5mm. They are made of tin-plated phosphor bronze and are available in different dimensions with thread sizes M2.5 to M5.
Studs for blind hole assembly and self-clinching products
If you’re looking for self-clinching studs for blind hole assembly in PCBs that allow invisible press-fit installation using a press and anvil, then we recommend our type CHA / CHC self-clinching studs and standoffs. They are ideal for rating plates, membrane keyboards and front panels and are available in plain aluminum or corrosion-resistant, passivated stainless steel 18/8 (AISI 300).
Self-clinching Clifa press-in threaded studs can be used to create wear-resistant connections capable of withstanding high loads in thin-walled molded parts (with a minimum thickness of 1.0mm). The fastener is pressed into the component, which can be made of aluminum, copper, steel, stainless steel, brass, etc., and the serrations secure it in place. These press-fit, self-clinching studs are made of steel (1.5511, 35B2, grade 8.8) and are zinc plated or yellow chromatized.
