Ferrules are important connecting elements in electronics. Whether in control cabinet/system construction or the production of assemblies – ferrules ensure reliable wiring and contacting as well as efficient cable assembly. For this purpose, the stripped ends of the flexible stranded wires are inserted into the ferrules and crimped with an appropriate tool. The single wires of the strand are protected against splaying, and damage to the individual strands is prevented by the screw terminal.
Ferrules thus minimize the risk of cable breaks, short-circuits and faults. They ensure consistent clamping for screw connections and considerably increase both contact stability and operational reliability. For these reasons, ferrules should always be used for terminal connections, especially for terminals without wire protection. ETTINGER offers high-quality ferrules without insulation, insulated ferrules in single or double versions and on request as strip or reel products in many sizes – usually directly from stock.
Uninsulated ferrules
Uninsulated ferrules – in a tubular shape and without a plastic sheath in accordance with DIN 46228/1 – are particularly suitable for cramped connection conditions. Since there is no collar, the conductor with the bundled stranded wires is easier to attach to the terminal. Properly installed with a special tool, ferrules without insulation reliably protect each conductor and thus secure the cable connection. The product is available in different lengths for conductor cross-sections from 0.1 mm² to 16.0 mm² in electrolytic copper or brass with a tin-plated or silver-plated surface.
Insulated ferrules
If the available space in the control cabinet is not an issue, ferrules with insulating collars are the best choice, as they give you other benefits besides those already offered by the uninsulated models. For example, the protective collar fully encloses the conductors so that the stranded wire bundles cannot kink. The conical shape of the plastic collar allows the stranded wires to be easily inserted into the ferrule, which in turn is inserted into the terminal. The color code on the insulating collars allows easy assignment to the corresponding conductor cross-section
Twin Ferrules
In addition to single ferrules, you can of course also order double ferrules from ETTINGER. Twin ferrules allow you to attach two stranded wires to one terminal – ideal for daisy-chaining the signal for multiple devices or if space is limited at the terminal. The oval-shaped plastic collar facilitates installation and assembly

- Insulation: polypropylene
- Thermally stable from -55°C to +105°
