Cage nuts
Cage nuts or box nuts consist of a square cage that can be easily clipped into the drill holes on the workpiece from the outside. Inside, there is a nut thread that can be moved longitudinally and transversely: This means that drill-hole tolerances can be compensated for during efficient assembly. Cage nuts are ideal for integrating screw connections into thin sheet metal panels which do not allow a thread to be cut. Blind assembly is possible with high tightening torques. Box nuts are reusable in combination with matching screws. They can be used in confined spaces and are therefore often found in control cabinets, where they are used to quickly attach units to the rack.
At ETTINGER you can order both normal cage nuts with the frequently used M6 thread as well as designs with grounding – naturally, in the highest quality and in large quantities on request.
Standard square nuts for control cabinets
These quick fasteners are available in three different versions:
- R version:

- Clamping range: 0.3 mm to 4.7 mm
- Bracket width: 5.3 mm to 14.0 mm
- RR version:
- Cage: stainless steel 18/8
- Nut: stainless steel
- Thread: M6
- Clamping range: 1.2 mm to 1.6 mm
- Bracket width: 8.3 mm
- ZI version:
- Cage: galvanized spring steel, passivated
- Nut: galvanized steel, passivated
- Thread: M5 and M6
- Clamping range: from 0.7 mm to 2.7 mm
- Bracket width: 9.5 mm
Grounded cage nuts to prevent short circuits
When used for wiring and cable runs, the cage nuts should be grounded to protect the equipment from short circuits. For this purpose, the grounded cage nuts from ETTINGER have bent-up corners on the enclosure which engage in the workpiece and form a firm contact with the component when screwed on. The cage is made from stainless steel, the nut from galvanized, passivated steel. The following versions are available:
- Thread: M5 and M6
- Clamping range: from 0.7 mm to 3.5 mm
- Bracket width: 9.5 mm
