To prevent the splaying of stripped ends of stranded wires, ferrules that comply with VDE 0611 are required. They prevent the single wires from being damaged by the terminal and help to avoid splaying of the conductors. They also prevent any loosening of the connection, which could lead to short-circuits or faults. A professional installation of terminals without wire protection is therefore only possible with ferrules.
Compared to ferrules without insulation, ferrules with protective collars offer the additional benefit of protecting the flexible conductors against kinking. The conductor insulation with the conductors is completely inserted into the insulated sleeves, which provide effective bend protection and prevent cable breaks. The funnel-shaped collar also facilitates the insertion of the wires. ETTINGER supplies insulated ferrules in accordance with DIN 46228 with color-coded protective collars. This allows the suitability of the crimp connectors for the respective conductor cross sections to be identified at a glance and ensures safe and efficient wiring.
Connect flexible conductors easily and permanently
The quality of the materials used to produce our ferrules with insulating collars plays a major role in the wiring quality of lines and cables. Robust sleeves and protective collars, which enable clean crimping with the conductor, are a prerequisite for long-term contact stability and operational reliability in electronics. ETTINGER therefore only supplies high-quality insulated ferrules with the following characteristics:
- Sleeve made of electrolytic copper (E-Cu), tin-plated
- Polypropylene insulation
- Temperature resistance: -55°C to +105°C
ETTINGER ferrules are available for cross-sections from 0.14 mm² to 16 mm² in various lengths. For simultaneous crimping of two conductors on one terminal, we naturally also offer special twin ferrules.
Please note: According to VDE 0611, the connection of conductors with soldered single wires to screw terminals is not permitted. For proper installation of the ferrules on the conductors, a special tool – or one approved by the manufacturer – should be used.
